Alex Campbel, Chatters Masonville Place

How did you know you wanted to become a stylist?

In school we had a hair program. I never took it. I was actually out of high school for four years before I went back to school. I guess I always had some interest in it. One day I took a tour at Marvel and fell in love. A week later I applied and in one month I started hairdressing school.

How did you come to work at Chatters?

I found the job on Kijijji and immediately applied. I started at the Hylands location and did my apprenticeship there. When the Masonville location opened I applied there and got on. I love the fast paced environment of the mall!

What’s it like working at a Chatters Salon?

I would say it totally feels like a family here. In fact, I’m closer to some of my co workers than I am to members of my family.

How does Chatters help make your work fit your life?

They’ve given me flexible hours which is amazing. I have three children and one of them is a baby. I recently took a three-month mat leave and now that I am back they are really good to me which helps with the new schedule and daycare etc.

What are some of your favorite products?

Morocccanoil Dry Texture Spray for sure. I have super flat hair. Every time I curl it and use this product it works like magic. I also like Clean Manic by Redken and AG dry lift.

Name a celebrity whose style you’d love to do.

Jensen Ackles!

Number one hair tip?

Use thermal protection spray! It drives me crazy to see how many people who skip this step and are damaging their hair. Its something that’s so important.

Expressing yourself, showing the bond and passion for your work.

Hidden talents?

The harder you work in life the more everything is going to pay off for you.
