What salon do you work at and what is your role? How long have you been there?
I work at Chatters Bower Place in Red Deer. I’ve been at this location for one year but with the company for three.
How did you learn about Chatters Salon?
Chatters has always been a place I’ve wanted to work ever since I was young and decided to be a stylist. I grew up around Red Deer and grew up knowing Chatters.
How did you choose your entry for the Dare to Hair?
First I decided what kind of colours I wanted to do. I love the metallic trend and have been itching to create a look inspired by that and that’s how I got Olga my first models look. I have tried many hair colours and always seem to find myself going back to red. Maggie my second model has been a long-time client of mine and shares this passion for red hair and when I asked if she would model some bright copper I was thrilled she said yes!
Would you recommend others enter salon competitions and why?
I will always recommend others to enter! I’m kind of a huge advocate. I love this competition so much because you really get to push yourself creatively and in skill. It’s not often that your client lets you have free reign and self expression in the chair. So when this competition was brought to my attention I immediately hopped on board. The creative aspects of my career and self expression are what drew me in and this competition embodies that, so I love it.
When/how did you know you wanted to become a stylist?
I always knew I wanted to do something in the arts. I draw, paint and play an instrument so when I started Cosmetology in grade 9 I immediately fell in love and knew this was what I wanted to do.
If you could give your younger self advice what would you say?
Believe in yourself and that you can do anything you set your mind to. I think I could have used more of that in my younger years and I try to give this advice to the young people in my life.
Favorite style trend?
Boho braids and natural curl/wave! Reminds me of summer and who doesn’t love that?
One of the best things about your job?
One of my favourite part of my job aside from playing with super cool colours and making people feel great, is the people I get to meet. I love meeting all sorts of people and hearing all sorts of stories. People are amazing and if you listen, it’s absolutely incredible the stories they have.
