What is your role at the salon?
I’m an elite stylist at Chatters Crowfoot and have been with the company for 5 years.
What made you want a career in the beauty industry?
I've known my whole life. I was the kid that would style and cut off my barbie dolls' hair. I just always knew that this was the path for me and it truly is a great industry to work in.
You’ve known you wanted to be a stylist for so long, how did you get into Chatters?
I saw that the Crowfoot location was hiring and ended up going in to apply. They gave me the best first impression and I knew it was going to be a good fit. Since that day I’ve had the most amazing experiences and truly love it here.
In those 5 years you been with us, how has Chatters helped you to grow as a stylist?
I worked in another salon prior, but when I first started working at Chatters I was an intermediate stylist. Since then I have become an elite stylist. Chatters helped me to grow as a stylist and expand my customer base.
How is Chatters different than other salons?
I find Chatters is amazing and help make sure they are on top of their style game. They care about their employees in both their personal and professional lives. They always have great promotions for clients and give you what you need to grow your clientele. They are very supportive of everyone.
You’re so passionate about styling, what is one of your favorite things about the job?
It's hard to pick just one! Some of my favorite things about my job is being able to talk to people all day. Clients start to become our friends, you see them so often that you get to know what's going on in their lives. I also love that I get to make my clients feel beautiful everyday and put a smile on their face when they leave my chair.
When you have a client in you chair, how do you connect with them to give them the best experience?
I find that in order to connect with the client in your chair you have to listen to what they want. This is so important because it helps to make them feel comfortable and excited. When you listen to them, you learn about their experiences and wants, this makes them feel so much more important.
If there was a certain style that you would say you have mastered over the years what would it be?
I would have to say balayage! I love doing it on clients hair and find it's such a popular trend right now that i’m doing it all the time in my chair. It’s very low maintenance and can change someone's hair without being too drastic.
If you do have a client looking to drastically change their hair, what advice would you give them?
I love when clients want to do something drastic but I always tell them to be ready for the change. I suggest that they look into what they want and look at inspirational pictures to make sure they know the exact style they are looking for.
Describe one of the best days at work you experienced…
I find that I have so many good days it’s hard to pick just one. I really love any time there’s a wedding party or grad. The whole salon is filled with their excitement, the clients are so happy about their event and I love making them feel beautiful for their big day.
What is your go to product when you have a client in your chair?
My favourite product right now is the Unite 7 second detangler, I use it on everyone of my clients. It's an amazing detangler as well offers some thermal protection, definitely my go to no matter the look i’m creating.
An important part of being a stylist is knowing the latest hair trends, what would you say your favourite is?
My favourite trends are the loose beachy waves, they are so versatile, you can do it on fine or thick hair and give such a soft, relaxed textured I love it.
When you’re not in the salon, what is your favorite thing to do on an off day?
One of my favourites things to do when I’m not at work is to meet up with friends and do their hair, we always have such a good time! I love playing team sports such as volleyball or softball and hanging out with my dog too.
Finally, what advice would you give someone who is just joining the beauty industry?
If I could give any advice, I would tell them to keep your confidence, take a bunch of classes and look into Chatters when you are finished. Chatters knows how to introduce into the industry and build your clienelet.
