What is your role at the salon?
I currently work as a Beauty Consultant.
How long have you been with Chatters?
I’ve been here about 10 months.
What are some of your favourite products?
Anything by AG Hair, it’s my favourite. I also like the Kenneth Bernard Protect Spray; it smells amazing. Another favourite of mine would be the wet brushes, they work like a charm.
What have you learned from working at Chatters?
I’ve learned about the different hair types and needs for each different one. I’ve also picked up so many more tips about hair and products from the stylists because my background is actually in makeup.
So you have a background in makeup, could you tell me how you got into cosmetics?
Years ago, while I was in school for Hospitality & Tourism, I chose to do a night class in makeup and fell in love. A job opened up at MAC Cosmetics, so that’s where I honed my skills and worked my way up to manage a MAC store. When I moved to Fort McMurray there weren’t many makeup opportunities, so I saw Beauty Consultant as a way to still be involved in the beauty industry.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I love to create specialty cakes and treats in my spare time!
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
Exploring more of Canada is definitely at the top of my list. Being new to Alberta, I would also like to see more of the West.
Do you have a personal philosophy?
There’s always something to be thankful for.
If you could give it, what advice would you give to your younger self?
I would definitely tell myself “Don’t worry about it.”
If you could give someone advice about joining the beauty industry what would that be?
Be open to opportunities and advice about anything. I think the biggest mistake people make in the beauty industry is being closed. Everyone you meet can share something with you!
How do you help customers to choose products?
I always ensure that I am creating a dialogue first, whether it’s about their hair, the weather, or their cute shoes! I make sure I’m not asking, “What are you looking for?”, but that I’m striking up conversation. I like to explore the reason they’re in the store through conversation; it makes them feel welcome and it helps me to remember the customer for the next time they visit.
