Misty Boutin: Stylist from the Preston Crossing location in Saskatoon
How long have you been a stylist?
I’ve been doing hair for five years and received my journeyman’s two and a half years ago.
How did you get into a styling career?
I used to really want to get into it when I was little and have always had a big interest in it. Then later on I learned there was a hair program at the college back home so I decided to pursue it and completely fell in love with it.
What are some of your favourite products?
I really like the whole Pillow Proof line by Redken, it’s absolutely amazing! The products help you to complete the whole styling process while also allowing you to blow dry a lot faster. The products also help protect your hair the way they should.
What are some of your favourite hair trends?
I really like shadow roots, I think the contrast between light and dark is really cool. I also really love pastel colours, they’re a fun way to try out different colours while still keeping it light and airy.
What is your favourite hair era and why?
I would have to say the one we’re currently in. We’re able to do so much more now than stylists were able to do in the past with all of the amazing technology. I love that every day people keep coming up with new ideas for hair.
Where do you find hair inspiration?
Living in the city definitely influences me a lot. It seems like every time you turn around there’s new hair styles and looks that I get excited to try!
How do you help clients to find the right products?
I try to go off of the texture and general feel of their hair and try to recommend products that work well with those factors. I also like to figure out how much work they like to put into styling their hair in order to see if they need more high or low maintenance products.
If you could style anyone’s hair who would it be?
Hayden Panettiere! I’ve always had a bit of a girl crush on her and she really inspires me to be myself without worrying too much about what other people think of me.
What have you learned from working at Chatters?
I’ve learned a lot. With Chatters I’ve really learned that you’re able to take control of your career and make it what you want it to be. Working at Chatters you’re free to express yourself. You’re really able to do what you enjoy and that has definitely really helped me to grow as a stylist.
