With 2017 coming to a close we’re all finding ourselves reminiscing on everything that has happened this year. From Beyonce having twins, to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry getting engaged, and of course the countless Donald Trump scandals, 2017 has become a year to remember. We’ve also found ourselves looking back on all of the beauty products we’ve fallen in love with this year. We met up with Chatters HQ Product Expert Madison Eufemia to get the details on all the latest and greatest that she found herself reaching for in 2017!
Chatters: In 2017 it seemed that more and more people were adding hair masks to their hair routines and were loving the results. What was your go-to mask this year when you felt like treating yourself?
Madi: The best hair mask I have ever bought is the Redken Extreme Megamask. This rinse out mask gives my ombre a boost when it is feeling dry and brittle. The formula is keratin rich which strengthens every strand! I can’t live without it!
Chatters: Some cool & innovative hair tools made their debut this year! What has been one of your favourite styling tools that you found yourself using constantly in 2017?
Madi: My go to hair tool is definitely my Avanti Micro Crimper! No matter what hair style I am creating, starting off with crimped roots to add volume and fullness, it is definitely a must!
Chatters: Let’s talk about the basics. Most people consider shampoo and conditioner essential in their hair care routine. You’ve probably tried a ton of different options, what is your current favourite?
Madi: A ton is definitely an understatement! But, of all the shampoo and conditioner combos I have tried; Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner is by far my favorite. The formula is luxurious and minty leaving your hair clean but smooth and hydrated.
Chatters: We want 2017 to be the year we all say bye-bye to dry, brittle hair. What hair oil has really helped you to get your strands feeling silky smooth this year?
Madi: Since I have ombre hair with Blonde ends I tend to be carful with oils/serums as they can sometimes yellow my color. However, there are a few oils that have blown me away in 2017! To pick one is definitely a challenge so I am going to call it a toss up between the Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Treatment and the Verb Ghost Oil. Kendi smells fantastic and has a good texture that doesn’t compromise my color or cause static! My second favorite is the Ghost Oil. This serum lives up to its name being clear in color and soaks in to your stands so well leaving your hair smooth and shiny without that greasy feel!
Chatters: In working so closely with manufacturers through Chatters you obviously have access to all of the very latest products that they are releasing. Did you have a favourite new product that came out this year?
Madi: 2017 was a great year for new products here at Chatters, but the one item that called out to me was the Puff Me Volume Powder by Design Me. This product has a pump applicator vs. a shaker top like you see on most other volume powders in the industry. This revolutionary container gives you the perfect amount of product to the areas you want leaving you hair voluminous without having lots of white residue or uncomfortable grit from over distribution.
Chatters: Everyone is beginning to really embrace their natural hair texture more and more. Was there a texture spray or cream that really stood out to you this year to achieve that effortless textured look?
Madi: Since my hair is so processed I try to let it air dry and keep its natural wave as much as possible. My favorite texture products to use together are the Verb Sea Texture Cream and AG Dry Wax Spray. Not only are these products easy to use and effective but the companies are both gluten, paraben and cruelty free. How great is that?
How to tousle:
I first coat my hands with a quarter sized amount of the Sea Texture Cream and scrunch it into towel dried hair. Once my hair is fully dry I boost up the texture with the AG Naturals Dry Wax Spray. This is a phenomenal spray that is easy to use, has great hold and leaves your hair matte and voluminous.
Chatters: With our cold Canadian climate we are all dying to get our hands on the best lotions to combat that dry skin caused by that winter air, what’s at the top of your list?
Madi: I am definitely a Hempz lover, the great flavors and rich formulas make this brand pretty hard to beat!
Chatters: In working for Chatters you also probably get to try a lot of skin care products and make up, what are your must haves?
Madi: The must have product in my beauty line up would have to be the Dizzolv’It Cleansing Balm. I have never had a makeup remover take off every trace of residue before, until I tried Dizzolv’It. This light cream eats away anything from 24hour lipstick to false lash glue! All I do is massage this balm all over my face and rinse with water. I am never left with an oily or irritated complexion after I use this product. It is truly a miracle worker!
Chatters: 2017 was definitely the year of taking risks and trying new things! We saw a ton of cool colours and sparkles; do you have a favourite product that you fell in love with to switch up your look?
Madi: The best and easiest product I have tried would have to be the Instatint Sprays from Joico. These little guys pack a lot of punch and pigment! They work great on my dark roots and are super vibrant on my blonde ends. The dye washes out really well so you don’t have to worry about compromising your hair color when you want to experiment with fun colors.
