Masking Tips:

Now that you have the right tools to achieve your hair goals, here’s how to use them to your best advantage!

Choosing a Mask:

Dry and curly hair that needs a boost of hydration will benefit from heavier oil-based formulas. Some deep conditioning oils include macadamia, olive and marula oil. For oily hair, keep moisturizing formulas off of the scalp and look for formulas with lightweight oils, such as jojoba oil. Thin, brittle or damaged hair that needs a boost of strength would love a protein-based mask. Keratin is one to look for to help with the structure of the hair.
Argan and coconut oils are also really great oils, and tend to work on most hair types.

Apply masks to damp, slightly towel-dried hair, so it is not sopping wet and use a wide tooth comb to distribute the mask evenly through strands. Try not to use too much at the roots and concentrate on the ends where benefits are needed the most. Do you have extremely dry or curly hair? Try applying the mask to dry hair as a pre-treatment before shampooing in the shower.

While most masks give a recommended time, leaving the mask on for as long as possible will allow the mask to really soak into strands. If you have extra time it is worth it! While waiting, wrap your hair in a warm towel – the heat is not only soothing, it will also help the product soak in. Or, apply to dry hair and wrap in a towel before going to bed. Leave the mask overnight and shampoo out in the shower the following morning. We recommend using an old pillowcase, just in case the towel slips off through the night.
