Beauty Pros

Tran, Calgary Creekside

What is your role, where do you work and how long have you been there?

I am a service manager and master stylist at Chatters Creekside in Calgary. I have worked here since 2010 but I have been on and off with Chatters due to Maternity leave (I have four kids!!!). I started with Chatters in 2006 at our Sunridge location and moved to Creekside in 2010.

Do you have a favorite product?

The latest one that I really love is the Unite Boosta Spray. I use it on my clients, and it works instantly no backcombing needed. Every client I use it on loves it… I probably sell it to 80% of my clients that need it!

What is your favourite hair trend?

I have to say the bob with the loose waves. It’s super easy to do, and I love the way that it looks. The flexibility and maneuverability of this style is incredible.

What celebrity would you want to style?

I would love to style Sandra Bullock's hair because it's long and it always looks good. I would also like to style Selena Gomez's hair.  There's something about the fullness and healthiness of their hair.

What does style happy mean to you?

It means to create something on the outside that matches you on the inside.

What's your pro tip?

Treatments! I would say do the at home treatments but still come into the salon for treatments. This is important especially for clients that are blonde; the lifting of the colour can be so hard on the hair and this way we can manage and maintain those platinum blondes. I recommend the Redken Extreme Mega Mask for my blondes.  I tend to use Redken Colour Extend Shot Phase after colouring the hair as a treatment to lock in the color and restore the pH. I will use the Extreme Shot Phase if I am doing a colour removal. Simply keeping up with maintenance at home will help the hair look healthy and shiny. I usually recommend the Extreme Mega Mask by Redken because it rebuilds the hair so well.

What would your idea of a salon look like?

It would be very classy looking with lots of bling. Think of a ballroom with chandeliers, rich and luxurious, that’s my idea of a beauty salon. Maybe a projection screen on the ceiling so people can watch things while lying in the sink instead of the plain grey ceiling.

What job would you be terrible at?

I would be terrible at a desk job, anything I have to sit down for would probably make me fall asleep. I just cant do the same thing every day. I just can’t sit!

What would be your ideal way to spend the weekend?

Exploring, whether it be hiking, or just anything outdoors. Away from the electronics and just being with the family.
